MANICALM Art Journal
This project is from a Filipina creative artist, formed from feelings of high emotional value. It found support in the form of a Danish publishing house and will be printed by craftsmen in Germany.
Dear Kaibigan,
Here, I write in my humble bed bunk, scrambling to decide on the words to use in this letter. It’s 4:04am in Manila, Philippines and I am scheduled to ask you for support in less than 48 hours to date. Support for what?
I am asking for support so that MANICALM will be published.
MANICALM is an art journal that explores the duality of human emotions through expressive arts. It's a combination of 'Manic,' representing intense, vibrant, and sometimes overwhelming emotions, and 'Calm,' symbolizing serenity, tranquility, and inner peace.
The book's purpose is to help readers connect with and find solace in the ebb and flow of their own emotional experiences.
In addition to the captivating visual and written content, readers can access a treasure trove of activities and useful materials by scanning QR codes, enhancing their journey and providing practical tools for emotional well-being.
Through half of the journal, you will experience with me what it might be like feeling manic. In the other half, you will witness how I gained a sense of calm.
Honestly speaking — for my past self, the deadlines and numbers I need to hit for this project to become a reality would have been utterly daunting. It took me a while to find acceptance with these aspects of the creative process and industry. But now, I am happy to have come to the realization that I need not shoulder the responsibilities alone.
Presenting the CALM side of the cover:
I have the backing of a great team in the form of SNAP COLLECTIVE. They are a publishing house based in Denmark and I’m the first Filipina artist they have signed on to support. Working with them has been such a joyful process. However, I need proof of market for our art journal to be ushered into tangible reality. I need your help, Kaibigan.
Presenting the MANIC side of the cover:
November 23, 2023 to December 6, 2023, the book will have a PRE-ORDER PERIOD on the website of SNAP COLLECTIVE (I will share the direct link to purchase closer to the date). That period will determine the future of MANICALM, whether it will be published, printed and shipped out by the first quarter of 2024 or not.
The upcoming 2 weeks is really an urgent time to show your support for this art journal to become real.
I hope you find enough merit and shared purpose in this project enough to support MANICALM by:
Sharing MANICALM — start using the word in conversations or narrate your understanding of the new word (whether it be in actual face-to-face conversations, with your friends and loved ones, or through posts on your respective online media accounts)
Tagging the project — using #MANICALM when sharing while also tagging my handle on Instagram — @RitzMarie
Investing in this art — the journal will start accepting pre-orders from November 23, 2023 to December 6, 2023 and your monetary support would be highly appreciated
As I ease this unfounded anxiety with a sense of calm, I would just like to thank you ~ my Kaibigan, my supporter. It already means a lot that you are interested enough in what I have to say to read through this whole letter. Thank you, I appreciate who you are, who you were and who you will become.
All this, I lift up to the Heavens.
Belovedly,
Jolyn
